Job Hunter's Tip of the Week- #5 - What are Employability Skills??
If you’ve come across any literature or websites about career exploration, you have no doubt heard the term Employability Skills. So just what are these skills anyway? In 2000, several employers and agencies from all over Canada came together to create a list of skills that employers are looking for in an employee. The Conference Board of Canada compiled the results into a brochure entitled “Employability Skills 2000+” The brochure describes the list as “the employability skills, attitudes, and behaviors that you need to participate and progress in today’s dynamic world of work” The list is broken down under three headings: Fundamental Skills, Personal Management Skills, and Teamwork Skills. Under each heading are descriptions of the different skills related to it. Some examples are communication, problem solving, positive attitudes and behaviors, adaptability, working with other and many more. These skills reach far beyond the workplace, and can be applied in our daily lives as well.
